The weight of a moment can extinguish it all
Fire within turned to wisps of smoke
Bones sutured with anxiety shake
The disposition of a calm mind hidden
Lungs can't contain the scream of frustration
Because it spirals
It thickens like a sludge
Crushing the heart like stone to leaf
You walk around the winter cold
Pretending it's the dry wind making your eyes water
Sweater weather never knew a better neighbor
Wash down the pain with a bottle
Knowing it never washes down
But what hurts is knowing that it's all within
You'd never know if you didn't ask
The invisibility taints the veracity
Obfuscated by big words the pain eludes
If only perspective was so easily accepted
By those who need it the most
It's always in the last place we look isn't it
And it always will be
Until we open up and look without
Gaining the sight we've always needed
But the blinders are powerful
Stapled to our psyche like a scarlet letter
And it takes so much out of us
The right moment will come to pass
A realization that everything is solvable
Despite the climb we must face to see it
We have to dig into the muddy steps
Lifting our legs full of pain and fatigue
Heavy steps matching a heavy heart
Perservering in the night
Until the sun rises and kisses our anguish
Letting the wound breathe
As tears stream down beaten skin
Glistening in acceptance that we will make it
No matter the pain we swallow
